Examples of such appliances are animal clippers, animal shearers and appliances for hairdressers.

However, if the appliance is intended to be used professionally to process food for commercial consumption, the appliance is not considered to be for household and similar use only.

Description of content: This Safety Standard deals with the safety of hand-held motor-operated or magnetically driven electric tools, the rated voltage of the tools being not more than 250 V for single-phase a.c. or d.c. tools, and 440 V for three-phase a.c. tools. This standard deals with the common hazards presented by hand-held tools which are encountered by all persons in the normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of tools. It applies to grinders, polishers and disk-type sanders, including angle, straight and vertical loads, with a rated capacity not exceeding 230 mm. For grinders, the rated speed does not exceed a peripheral speed of the accessory of 80 m/s at rated capacity.
